Five Superfoods to Brighten Your Smoothie Bowls

Want to add that pop of colour to your smoothie bowls? As well as being packed with nutrients, superfood powders are a great way to brighten your breakfast. Move over food colouring! These antioxidant-rich and flavourful ingredients will help you step up your smoothie bowl game, boosting their nutritional value and making them more ‘Insta-worthy’.

1. Beetroot powder (pink/red)

Perfect for that natural pop of pink! Beetroot powder is a readily available superfood that is full of antioxidants, and nutrients such as iron and betaine. It is amazing for liver detoxification. We love adding it to smoothie bowls, baked goods, and even lattes! Pair it with pink pitaya to double down on the pinkness.

2. Turmeric powder (orange/yellow)

Fun fact: ‘turmeric’ was the most googled word last year. That’s a pretty clear sign of how popular this superfood ingredient has become! And for good reason - it’s just so versatile, working well in both sweet and savoury recipes. In addition to it’s pretty colour and distinct taste, turmeric also has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties - it ain’t called a superfood for nothing!

3. Matcha powder (green)

Matcha powder is made from high-quality green tea. It’s absolutely packed with antioxidants and is also reported to boost your metabolism. When it comes to making green smoothie bowls, it’s a matcha-made-in-heaven! It also contains caffeine, so is best eaten in the morning.

4. Blue spirulina (blue)

Blue Spirulina is extracted from blue-green algae (seaweed). It enhances immunity, supports gut health, AND increases energy levels. It doesn’t have a strong taste, so is easily added to any bowl for its nutritional value - and of course, for that beautiful blue colour!

5. Butterfly pea powder (blue/purple)

Butterfly pea powder is sourced from organic butterfly pea flowers, a Thai herbal plant that is rich in antioxidants. It is a vibrant blue/purple colour, with health benefits very similar to that of green tea. We love including this colour in our smoothie bowls!

Whichever natural superfood you choose to brighten your morning, be sure to share your creation with our Instagram community by tagging @coconutbowls and @plantd! Happy colouring!
